The safety lamp/bath house

This property, together with the fan room, is one of the oldest buildings remaining from the time the Manda Pit started its operation and is a national important cultural propaty. It appears to have been used originally as a machine room for the fan. Subsequently, it began to be used as the safety lamp house, and when the Manda Pit ceased its coal mining operations in 1951, part of the property was renovated into a bath house with changing and drying rooms. We can only view the inside the building from the outside, but there are two bathtubs inside that were used by the miners to wash the coal off. The safety lamp house contains charging tables for safety lamps and equipment necessary for mine cavity maintenance such as gas indicators and battery chargers.
