The construction of the Tower was completed in 1908 but it was repainted and/or repaired gradually. When it was restored in 2009, it was discovered from imprints that steel from Glasgow Steel Company and Dorman Long Company were used. Both the No. 1 Shaft Tower and the No. 2 Shaft Tower were made of steel. Each pillar was in the lattice girder truss structure, in which steel pieces, thick enough to be called ‘steel sheets’, were bent into a pyramid shape and a number of the sheets put together to form a lattice. By using this method, construction of a strong tower became possible with smaller amounts of steel. It also had the advantage of reducing wind pressure on the towers. A repair job, mainly repainting, was conducted from 2007 to 2009.
